MEET OUR PASTORS

The New Testament uses the terms “elders,” “overseers,” and “pastors” to describe and define the same thing: namely, a group of men recognized by the congregation to serve as officers in the church, charged with the tasks of teaching the Word of God, devotion to prayer, and providing oversight to the members of a local congregation (see Acts 14:23; 20:17, 28; Ephesians 4:11; 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:1-4; Hebrews 13:17). Thus, you will hear us often at Bellepoint use these terms interchangeably as they each shape our understanding of who a pastor is to be and what he is to do. We believe that in God’s good design the church is meant to be led by a plurality of elders as qualified by Scripture. Though some elders may serve vocationally full-time in the service of the church while others maintain outside sources of income, all our pastors share the same pastoral authority in shepherding the flock.

MEET OUR DEACON

In addition to the office of elder/pastor, the New Testament establishes the role of deacons in the life of the church. Deacons are recognized by the congregation as church officers given authority to help serve the physical needs of those within the church body and to promote the unity of its members (see Acts 6:1-7; 1 Timothy 3:8-13). Additionally, these individuals were appointed in the New Testament so that the elders of the church might devote themselves fully to ministry of the Word and prayer.
